The term
“Lifestyle Vaccines”
is being used to
describe some of the new
vaccines on the market
such as Gardasil and
Zostavax. There is a lot
of buzz at the CDC, the
ACIP (Advisory Committee
in Immunization Practices)
and pharmaceutical
companies around this. Not
only can this describe
numerous vaccines on the
market but it is well
suited to capture the
essence of emerging
vaccines like those for
obesity and smoking
cessation.
Passport Health provides
lifestyle vaccines such as
Gardasil (human papilloma
virus), Zostavax (shingles
vaccine), and Adacel
(includes whooping cough).
Passport Health handles all of the logistics, paperwork, vaccine administering, reminders, and boosters. This can take the onus off of already stretched health centers at schools and employers to free them up to do what they do best. Plus, this is a great mechanism to deal with “catch-up cohorts” that will exist around most new vaccines.
HPV
Protection
GARDASIL® is the only
vaccine that may help guard
against diseases that are
caused by human papilloma
virus (HPV) Types 6, 11, 16,
and 18: cervical cancer,
cervical abnormalities that
can sometimes lead to
cervical cancer, and genital
warts.
In October 2005 the pharmaceutical company Merck announced that in clinical trials Gardasil was 100% effective in preventing infection with HPV strains 16 and 18, which together cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases.
Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in women and 2nd leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide.
The new human papilloma virus vaccine recently approved is now recommended by CDC for women from 9 - 26 years of age.

Shingles Protection
ZOSTAVAX®, another newly approved vaccine, is recommended by CDC for people age 60 and older to prevent herpes zoster, or shingles, a condition that often leads to debilitating chronic pain. |
